how and why i do what i do

Hi, I’m Maury Jo and I am passionate about leaning into the life stories of others and discovering the truths of the Gospel woven into each unique story. I believe we are all made in the image of God and that He has given us Himself through Jesus and His scripture to provide everything we need to walk in our true identity in Christ despite the immense struggles of life.

It’s one of my greatest joys to help others strengthen their ability to pause and reflect amidst a trial in order to reject the lies and walk in truth. At Counseling with Maury Jo, we aim to understand who we are, why we’re here, and where we’re headed. We practice following Jesus rather than allowing our circumstances, emotions, or other people to dictate our next steps. This is what I like to call practicing “Jesus in the moment.”

My counseling sessions are conducted via virtual or phone calls to best accommodate schedules. Each call is typically 50 minutes and can be booked via the "Contact" tab on my website. Please note that I am a biblically certified counselor, but not LPC.

What is a typical session like?

Each session is conducted via a virtual or phone call and is usually around 50 minutes in length. The first one is to get to know you and unpack the reasons you are seeking counseling, your background, and an overview of your life story if possible. We begin and end with prayer if you are comfortable with it. I always ask what was their take-away from the session and we share words of encouragement.

Is what i share confidential?

Confidentiality is key. When you book a session with me, I provide a Notice of Privacy agreement as well as my legal and professional obligations as a counselor. Confidentiality is essential in a counseling relationship.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance or negotiate with insurers, and my services are likely not reimbursed by any insurer. The client is financially responsible for their session and agree to pay the charges incurred.

When are you available for sessions?

My session availability:

Mondays: 5:00, 6:00 pm
Thursdays: 8:30 ,9:30, 10:30 am
Fridays: 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 am

I do make availability on an as-needed basis as well.
